Sensifall, developed by ABCD Innovation, is a flooring that makes it possible to automatically detect and analyze activity, and inform the right people. According to the company, the solution is based on changes in weak electric fields that enable the detection of movement patterns.
Although the advertised use case for the technology is to quickly identify people who may have fallen in elderly care homes, there is the possibility that it could also be used in the future for security or crowd analysis purposes. As an example, Sensifall or another similar technology could complement existing CCTV systems, or other sensor and/or Bluetooth technology in use in airports today. As a complementary or supplementary technology, flooring with movement detection capabilities could assist with anomalous behavior detection activities and/or security checkpoint wait time data collection.
We are not placing all of our security eggs in this basket, but it’s an interesting technology to watch!
