Batman List of Gratitude (March 24, 2020)

As our founder and Managing Partner has highlighted, there are many superheroes in our industry working hard to get us through the COVID-19 pandemic.  In gratitude for their efforts, we’re posting a weekly list of heroic efforts in the aviation security and passenger facilitation sectors.  Voila…

This week we give thanks for:

• Airport and airline operators and response teams, crew, staff, and personnel for the courage to keep going.
• Heroes in the cargo industry keeping the supplies moving!
• Immigration and security officers, and airport screening staff for relentless dedication to the security mission.
• The European Commission’s Department for Mobility and Transport (DGMOVE)’s COVID-19 guidelines for border management matters and aviation security measures (not public).
• Airport Council International World’s (ACI) efforts to protect the front-line in airports globally through the publication of new guidance materials.
• Airport Council International North America (ACI-NA) and the American Association of Airline Executive’s (AAAE) urging of Congress to provide $10 billion in immediate assistance to meet airport needs with calls for more special attention to be given to the aviation industry.
• The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) ongoing updates and resources for airlines and other travel professionals as well as recommendations for passengers.
• Airlines for America’s (A4A) issuance of a letter from leading airline CEOs urging Congress to swiftly pass an aid package that includes worker payroll protections.
• The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) urging of governments to exempt movement of cargo from bans and joining with IATA to advocate for air cargo being recognized as vital in the fight against COVID-19.
• The US Transportation Security Administration’s ( TSA) request for $153 million in support, including $26 million in estimated overtime and travel costs.
• A broad coalition representing the entire aviation industry which issued a letter to Treasury Secretary Mnuchin and Congressional Leadership to work as one to act as quickly as possible to address the debilitating economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the industry.
• Airlines for Europe (A4E) and European Regions Airlines Association’s (ERA) open letter to EU Member States asking for action at the European level on the need to preserve minimal connectivity and economic supply chains, to support airlines through a stimulus package including the suspension/postponement of fiscal burdens, to waive airport slots rules, and to provide clear guidance on passenger rights.
